Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re considering a consultation or planning a home‑tech project, these FAQs will help you understand how I work and what to expect. If you still have questions after reading, feel free to get in touch – I’m always happy to help.
Once you book a slot, you’ll receive a link for a video call (Zoom or Google Meet). You can join from your laptop, tablet, or phone. If I need to see your setup – your router, a cable, or a piece of AV kit – you can simply point your phone’s camera at it. It’s straightforward and surprisingly effective.
Not at all. My job is to handle the technical side so you don’t have to. I use clear, everyday language, and if we need to configure something together, I’ll guide you step‑by‑step.
Most Wi‑Fi, smart home, and AV issues can be diagnosed and resolved remotely. If something turns out to be faulty or requires a physical repair, you’ll still get a clear diagnosis and a written “next steps” plan – so you know exactly what to tell a local engineer or which part to order.
No. I’m completely independent. I don’t sell hardware and I don’t take commissions. Any recommendation I make is based purely on what’s best for your home, your needs, and your budget.
Most single issues – like a Wi‑Fi dead zone or a smart home glitch – are resolved within the hour. If your setup is more complex or you’d like to cover additional topics, you can extend the session in 30‑ or 60‑minute increments at a reduced rate. We’ll always discuss this before the time is up, so there are no surprises.
Absolutely. This is a core part of my Project Oversight service. I can review their plans, specify cabling requirements, and act as your technical advocate to ensure everything is installed correctly. It’s far cheaper to get the technology right on paper than to move cables once the walls are plastered.
To make the most of our time, it helps if you can share your internet provider, the rough age of your equipment, and a short summary of the issue. For renovation or upgrade projects, floor plans or a few photos of the space are extremely useful.
Yes. I work across all major platforms – Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa – as well as professional systems like ELAN. Because I understand how these ecosystems communicate, I can usually get them working together even when they’re being stubborn.
Absolutely. All video calls are encrypted, and I never ask for your passwords or sensitive login details. If we need to access a setting together, I’ll guide you through it so you remain in full control of your information.
Yes. Every session includes a follow‑up summary with the key points and recommended next steps. If you have a quick question a few days later about the advice given, I’m happy to help via email. For ongoing or more complex support, we can explore a Project Oversight package.
ISPs are responsible only for the connection reaching your front door. They rarely help with internal Wi‑Fi issues, smart home integration, or AV setups. I look at your entire home ecosystem as a whole, ensuring every device works together – not just the router.
Most sessions are available within a few days, and sometimes sooner depending on my schedule. If you need help quickly – for example, your Wi‑Fi has gone down or a device has stopped working – feel free to book the next available slot and add a note. I’ll always do my best to accommodate urgent issues.
That’s completely normal – most people come to me with a general problem like “the Wi‑Fi keeps dropping” or “my smart devices won’t stay connected.” You don’t need to diagnose anything yourself. I’ll ask a few simple questions, take a look at your setup, and work out the root cause for you.
Yes – this is one of the most valuable times to get advice. I can review your plans, specify cabling, and make sure your Wi‑Fi, networking, and smart home systems are designed correctly from the start. It’s far cheaper to plan technology early than to fix it once the walls are finished.
